Spring sports scores from Tuesday

The GHSA Soccer playoffs kicked off tonight with the girls in the 7A, 5A, 3A, A-Public and A-Private classifications. The remaining classifications will play out their first-round games on Thursday with the boys teams playing tomorrow and Friday. The lacrosse season also continues with a few teams getting in their last games before the postseason which begins on May 1st.

On the soccer pitch, Class AAAAAAA defending champs Parkview handed the Mill Creek Hawks a 5-1 loss to push the Panthers through to the sweet sixteen. At the eight-minute mark, sophomore Narissa Gaither crossed in a corner kick towards junior Nieva Gaither for the Panthers’ first goal of the match. Up by one, Parkview refused to let off the gas as junior Kendra Davis found the back of the net during the 14 and 15-minute marks to increase Parkview’s lead to 3. The Hawks managed to capitalize on a free-kick with a goal but would fail to put points on the board for the rest of the match. With almost five minutes remaining in the first half, Davis found Molly Hickman and crossed her the ball to set up the Panther’s fourth goal of the half. A hard strike from Narissa Gaither with 15 minutes left in the game gave the sophomore her second goal of the night and put the game away.

Parkview now advances into the second round where the Panthers will be matched up against Milton as they search for their tenth state title in school history.
