The state traditional wrestling championships have been postponed until Feb. 21-22 due to inclement weather conditions in the metro Atlanta area. The event, which had been scheduled Thursday through Saturday at the Arena at Gwinnett this week, he’d been previously condensed to Friday and Saturday. Now, the event has been pushed to next weekend and is looking for a new home. The Arena at Gwinnett has scheduling conflicts and will not be able to host the event.

Here is the official statement from the GHSA:

“The GHSA has been monitoring the weather conditions and there remains the possibility of more ice and snow in many parts of the state. We agree with the school systems that the safety of students, athletes and their supporters must be a major consideration when making decisions and support them in their efforts.

The GHSA State Wrestling Championship Tournament scheduled for the Gwinnett Arena has been postponed until the weekend of February 21 & 22. In order to allow time for these athletes to properly prepare for the most important tournament of the season and because the Gwinnett Arena is not available due to previous commitments, the GHSA is exploring several options for alternate host sites.”
