Undeafeated Grayson Lady Rams included in ‘Chipotle Nationals’ national high school basketball tournament

After an undefeated 32-0 record and a Class 7A state championship under their belt, the Grayson Lady Rams basketball team will be included in the “Chipotle Nationals”— the national high school basketball tournament, per SportsCenter NEXT social media accounts. The national tournament will be televised on ESPN platforms across the country.

The tournament will take place from April 4-6 and will be held at Brownsburg High School in Indianapolis and will feature the top high school basketball teams in the country—recognizing the Lady Rams as such.

The girls bracket of the tournament features six of the top-15 girls high school basketball teams in the nation. The Lady Rams will be the no. 2-seed in the national tournament.

“It’s vindicating truthfully to have the validation of what we have built and done as a team is quite satisfying,” said Grayson girls basketball coach, Tim Slater.

Coming off of a 65-44 victory in the state championship, Grayson looks to keep their undefeated season alive as they go up against some of the best talent in the nation.

As the two-seed, Grayson girls team will have a first-round bye and will face the winner of three-seed IMG Academy (FL) and six-seed Grace Christian (NC).

As a top-two seed in the tournament, the Grayson Lady Rams are the only team representing the Peach State in both the girls and boys brackets though Grayson’s boys team— the Class 7A state champions, were left out of the tournament after being nationally ranked a majority of the year.

“To be the sole representative from the state of Georgia says a lot about our program, our scheduling, our performance and our players,” said Coach Slater. “It really puts Grayson on the national radar and helps our kids get their recognition and college recruiting they deserve,” he added.

Both the Grayson basketball teams won the GHSA Class 7A state championship in both the girls and boys tournaments, the 23rd time that has happened in Georgia high school basketball history and the second season in a row where it happened (Kell, 2023).

The first game the Lady Rams will play in the tournament will take place in the semifinals on April 5 at 10:30 a.m. ET and will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
