Kiffin leaves Knoxville for USC; Thrashers win!

The SEC just got a little duller now that Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin has taken the USC job after just one season in Knoxville. The 34-year-old Kiffin, his father Monte and Ed Orgeron will all three reported move to the left coast as Lane Kiffin reported accepted the job after his former boss Pete Carroll left for Seattle. Several high school players from the state of Georgia might be rethinking their decisions, including North Gwinnett’s JuWuan James who enrolled Monday but may be granted a waiver to move to another school. Gainesville’s AJ Johnson immediately dropped Tennessee while Markeith Ambles said he might follow Kiffin to Southern Cal. Southwest DeKalb CB Marques Dixon and LaGrange-Troup DE JC Copeland both said they are still on board with the Vols.

For the first time in 21 games the Atlanta Thrashers claimed victory in regulation, as the Thrashers skated to a 6-1 win over the Senators last night. Ilya Kovalchuk scored a goal and had two assists to thrill the Blueland crowd, who last Saturday saw the team fall 8-1 to Washington and who had been a witness to 11 of the last 12 games ending up as losses. Pavel Kubina also scored a goal for the Thrashers.

Herschel Walker will GET IT ON MMA-style January 30 in Sunrise, Florida at the Panthers Arena in his first ever MMA bout against Greg Nagy. Walker signed on with Strikeforce on a multi-fight deal, and the 47-year-old former Heisman winner and Bulldog legend will face the 1-1 Nagy.

Finally, the Atlanta Falcons have decided not to bring back Hall of Famer and assistant coach Emmitt Thomas after Thomas served for four different coaches in eight seasons. The former assistant head coach/secondary coach was the only coach not to be brought back. The secondary allowed 241.9 yards per game, 28th in the league.
