Week 6 Football Rankings

Grayson and Lowndes had shutout wins to the tune of a combined 129-0 score, and Archer held off Roswell 37-26 on the road. The rest of the teams, save Mountain View, won comfortably over 7A or 6A opponents. North Gwinnett, which held off previous No. 9 Mountain View 27-14, enters the rankings.

Coffee dropped a narrow 33-31 game at ranked 7A team Tift County, but we’ll keep them No. 3 after that tough loss. Two-loss Harrison is right behind them at No. 4, and the Hoyas got a strong 27-10 win over region mate Allatoona. Douglas County knocked Langston Hughes out of the rankings and moved up to No. 6. Dalton re-enters at No. 10, beating out a thin crop of contenders.

The only movement in Class A-Private consisted of Calvary Day’s drop out of the rankings due to a 9-3 home loss to two-loss Aquinas. Everyone else in the rankings was either on a bye or had a comfortable win, and Darlington re-entered the Top 10 with two straight wins.

Top-ranked Cedar Grove set a school record of 15 wins in a row as it moved past Westminster 41-10 last week. It begs the question, who in Class AAA can stop the Saints? Second-ranked Peach County has never played Cedar Grove. Third-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian fell to the Jelani Woods led Saints last year in the championship game after moving past Peach County in the semifinals. Peach County moved past Westside-Macon last week 35-7, protecting its No. 2 rank. GAC handled Union County 47-7. Out of the top three programs, it is hard to tell who is the best in Class AAA.

Benedictine beat Vidalia 27-7 last week and holds the top spot in Class AA again this week. Hapeville Charter easily handled South Atlanta 42-7 to move to 4-1 and stay in the No. 2 spot. Third-ranked Screven County shut out Laney, 49-0, and had 402 rushing yards in the game. Thomasville beat Cook 40-34 but trailed 34-28 in the fourth before scoring two late touchdowns. The Bulldogs slid to fifth with Rabun County climbing to No. 4 after a 49-8 win over West Hall.
