WRESTLING NOTEBOOK: Archer continues to dominate the mats

Archer’s recent run of dominance continued with a title at the Heart of Dixie Classic last Thursday. Archer was led by Hunter McCleskey’s championship, coupled with second-place finishes by Ernest Alexander and Zach Wright. Jalen McCorvey contributed a third-place finish. Archer has won six meets this season. … Buford finished second at the Amicalola Classic last Thursday after having eight wrestlers place. Braden Hartley, Chris Boulware, Michael Lane, Chip Ness and Dima Aguero all won their respective weight classes while Dylan Dailey, Stephen Thrasher and Michael Paolozzi each finished in the top five. … Greater Atlanta Christian won the Georgia Thompson Memorial last Wednesday at Winder-Barrow High School. GAC used three individual champions to outpace second-place Meadowcreek 167.5-145.5. For GAC, Zach Feuerbach (160) claimed a title, as did Parker Embry (132) and Caleb Bumpers (126). Carter Klinebell (120) and Will Hemby (145) each finished as runners-up in their weight classes. … Second-place Meadowcreek posted four runners-up in Rene Deluna (126), Ade Harden (138), O.G. Harden (170) and Ryan Moore (182). Alex Steele, Angelo Pineda, Dante Bennett and Emmet Doe each finished third for Meadowcreek. … Mountain View finished fourth in the George Thompson Memorial behind Sterling Pyles’ championship at the 145-pound level. Calin Fistaeg (132) was runner-up in his class while Adam Flatt (106), Kenny Cook (113), Octavian Jarda (182), Jamal Tull (195) and Tommy Coggins (285) all finished in third place. … Parkview traveled to the Tiger Holiday Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. last Wednesday and Thursday. An Vu (113) took fourth in the consolation bracket, while Harrison Schmid was the third-place finisher at (195) by securing a second-period fall. … Collins Hill put nine wrestlers in the quarters at the Tiger Holiday Classic en route to a team championship. The Eagles scored 281.5 points to easily take the title. Sean Russell (106), Ryan Millhof (113), Drew Ferguson (120), Steven Bradtmueller (126) and Spencer Rickman (138) all won class championships. Andrew Krawulski (182), Tommy Donaldson (195), Elijah Wellington (220) and Zach Carmin (285) all placed highly for Collins Hill. … Harrison finished in 16th place at the Tiger Classic with Anthony Fiacco (152) posting a second-place finish and Jake Shumpert winning the 285-pound title. … Roswell and Kell finished in second and third place at the ALX Invitational last Friday, held at Alexander High School in Douglasville. Host Alexander won the event. … Creekview went 3-0 in the Gold and Black Duals at Sequoyah on Wednesday. Five Grizzlies went undefeated at the meet including Austin Collett, T.J. Matos, Roddy Ovetsky, Logan Ridings and Christian Saragusa. For the host Chiefs, Adam Graves, Dylan Hall and Brad LaSelva each went 3-0.
