2016 Week 2 softball rankings

Kennesaw Mountain climbs to No. 1 in Class AAAAAAA after the fall of No. 2 Mill Creek and No. 4 East Coweta. Mill Creek lost 5-4 to now unranked South Forsyth while East Coweta dropped a 3-1 decision against newly ranked No. 7 Columbus in Class AAAA. The Mustangs earned their top ranking by drilling Class AAAAAA’s No. 2 Pope, 8-3. No. 5 Norcross jumps four spots. New to the poll are No. 9 Lowndes and No. 10 North Forsyth. Lowndes is 8-1 with a 5-4 win over Class AAAAAA’s No. 6 Houston County. North Forsyth picked up a 5-3 win over No. 3 North Gwinnett.

 

No. 1 Cambridge knocked off No. 2 Pope in Class AAAAAA action 4-2. No. 6 Houston County drops from No. 2 after three losses to tough completion: AAAA No. 10 West Laurens, A-Private No. 4 Tattnall Square and AAAAAAA No. 9 Lowndes. No. 4 Harrison has rebounded nicely following a season opening 7-0 loss to No. 3 Dalton. The Hoyas recently edged No. 5 Allatoona 5-3. No. 9 Northgate debuts in the top ten at 4-1-1, replacing Richmond Hill who has lost three straight.

 

It’s still No. 1 Buford’s classification to lose in AAAAA. No. 2 Walnut Grove (6-1) and No. 3 Locust Grove (7-1) are nipping at the Wolves however. Veterans slides out of the top ten after losing three straight and falling to 1-4. Villa Rica makes an appearance in the poll at No. 10 following a 5-1 start.

 

In Class AAAA, Northside-Columbus is still No. 1. They have outscored their opponents 37-0 in their past two games. The Patriots even have a 7-1 win over new No. 2 Central-Carroll. Jada Chadwick, Sidney Mathis and Raelee Weaver have all powered the attack along with Gabi Apiag. They have a crosstown showdown with rival No. 7 Columbus, who enters the top ten following their win over East Coweta. Outside of Columbus, the poll has been shaken up. Last week’s No. 3, Blessed Trinity, is now out after losing 10-0 to A-Private No. 8 Christian Heritage and 9-0 to A-Public No. 1 Gordon Lee. No. 3 Heritage-Catoosa moves up after a 4-3 win over Dalton. No. 4 Chestatee and No. 5 Stephens County take big jumps after starting 7-0 and 6-0. Chapel Hill has fallen from No. 2 to No. 6 after a 4-3 start and a 7-4 loss to Harris County. Region 6-AAAA now has three teams in the top ten now that No. 8 Ridgeland and No. 9 Lafayette join Heritage. Ridgeland holds a 5-4 win over Heritage while Lafayette knocked off A-Public No. 1 Gordon Lee, 2-1.

 

No. 1 Calhoun continues to coast in AAA. No. 3 Brantley County jumps up three spots while No. 6 Ringgold falls three spots. Morgan County is now No. 7 after a win against A-Public No. 3 Georgia Military, but a loss to AA No. 4 Monticello. No. 8 Cook and No. 10 Pike County are new to the top ten. Tattnall County and Pierce County drop out.

 

Class AA sees Rockmart rocket up from No. 9 to No. 2 while Dodge County sinks to No. 7 from their No. 2 spot a week ago. No. 4 Monticello crashes the poll at 6-2 with wins over AAAAA No. 6 Union Grove and Morgan County. No. 9 Chattooga makes an appearance with a quick 6-2 start.

 

A-Private is a battle between No. 1 Stratford Academy and No. 2 Wesleyan with No. 3 Strong Rock and No. 4 Tattnall Square Academy off to hot starts as well. Brookstone and Mt. Vernon Presbyterian slip out of the top ten and are replaced by No. 9 Mt. Pisgah and No. 10 Prince Avenue.

 

Class A-Public had its two presumptive heavy favorites suffer losses, but No. 1 Gordon Lee and No. 2 Georgia Military College remain atop the poll with No. 3 Trion poised to make a run. No. 4 Glascock has jumped five spots with their 8-0 open to the year.
