Brandon Haywood named new head coach at Pepperell High School

Pepperell High School has announced that Brandon Haywood will be the school’s new head football coach.

Haywood, a Georgia-native from Rockmart, spent his last two seasons at Woodland High School in the same role. Prior to being the head coach at Woodland, Haywood served as the offensive coordinator for Rockmart, Cass and River Ridge before getting his head coaching start.

As an offensive coordinator at Rockmart, he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to 24-consecutive region wins which led to three-straight region championships as well as two playoff appearances.

While at River Ridge High School, Haywood earned the Ray Face Assistant Coach of the Year award for Cherokee County.

In his playing days at Carson-Newman University, Haywood was a star quarterback on the gridiron. His play helped him win numerous honors such as Offensive MVP, All-SAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, and All-SAC First Team.

In a statement released by Floyd County School, Pepperell High School principal Jason Kouns had this to say.

“Pepperell High School is tremendously excited about welcoming Coach Brandon Haywood and his family to Dragon Country, as the new Head Football Coach. Based on Brandon’s regional connection as both an athlete and head coach, he is well aware of the tradition behind Pepperell football and our expectation of excellence. Coach Haywood is well versed on the Lindale and Silver Creek areas, and I have no question, he will take Dragon football to new heights!”
