Broncos lose first region football game in 29 contests

After tasting defeat in region play for the first time in 29 games on Oct. 10, the football team welcomed Central Gwinnett as it tried to start a new streak. Just one week after allowing its first 100-yard rusher of the season, the Bronco defense allowed Diante Drake to scamper for 101 yards. But the Broncos, thanks to Brice Smith, still won the game 27-14. In the 10-7 loss to Grayson, a special teams breakdown led to the Rams’ only touchdown. Senior Brice Smith continued his hot streak, scoring another touchdown. The team hits the road this Friday to take on Dacula. … The softball team earned a trip to the state sectionals. The Lady Broncos met Mill Creek in the first round of the State Tournament and lost 2-0. In the losr’s bracket, the Lady Broncos stayed alive after a 5-1 victory over Walton on Saturday morning. But hours laer, Brookwood fell 2-1 to Kennesaw Mountain, effectively ending the team’s season. Brookwood finished with a final record of 14-19-2.
