BULLDOG BEAT: Murray, Dawgs erupt to destroy rival Vols

It’s a new team, ladies and gentlemen.

Last week, Georgia showed glimpses of what they could have been this year with A.J. Green in the lineup. This week, they proved they are a new band of Bulldogs. In a game that was being talked about only because of Tennessee coach Derek Dooley’s return to his hometown, the host Bulldogs dominated all facets of the game in a 41-14 pasting of Dooley’s Volunteers.

Georgia’s offense, which has struggled to score all year, put 41 points on a Vol defense that had held top 10 foes LSU to 16 and Florida to 31. Quarterback Aaron Murray was fantastic for Georgia today, throwing for 266 yards and two touchdowns and running for two more.

“He’s growing,” said coach Mark Richt about his young quarterback. “He’s really doing a good job. He made good decisions and was accurate today. He made very few mental errors.”

The Bulldog defense held Tennessee to just nine rushing yards in a standout performance after several mediocre outings. Todd Grantham’s troops also caused two turnovers out of three caused by UGA today. To top their performance off, the unit held on four downs with Tennessee inside the Georgia 10-yard line late in the game.

“We were resilient,” said defensive end Demarcus Dobbs. “We got them in punt situations and we got off the field in third downs. That’s what we have to do to be successful.”

The return of AJ Green sparked the Dogs, especially on offense, as the junior from Summerville caught six balls for 96 yards and a touchdown. Just Green’s presence seems to open up the offense for the Dawgs and, therefore, gives the entire team confidence.

“He’s a playmaker,” said Richt. “There’s no doubt about it.”

Next week, the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-3) host SEC foe Vanderbilt (1-3) for Homecoming.
