The Lassiter boys soccer program entered Wednesday night’s contest against South Gwinnett unbeaten with a 16-0 record. Austin Varney gave the Comets a 1-0 lead in the third minute, but Lassiter looked to be in control after halftime when Trey Luscre found the back of the net off an assist from Clay Dimick. Derek Denton would bury a shot with less than three minutes remaining to give South Gwinnett a 2-1 advantage that would stand as the Comets, who reached the postseason for the first time since 2004, would win the program’s first playoff game in over 20 years. … Despite losing six players to the US Development Academy, the Collins Hill Eagles opened up their quest for a fourth title in five years with a 4-1 win over West Forsyth. Alen Maslo and Paul Ille gave Collins Hill an early lead and Juan Restrepo and Andrew Olortegui also scored goals for the defending Class AAAAA champions. … Sterling Wendt, Cameron Bean and Dioney Vega each scored a goal as host Centennial blanked Meadowcreek 3-0 Wednesday. … Walton saw Central Gwinnett go up 2-0 as Rigo Gudiel and Samir Ramic each scored goals to push the Black Knights to an early advantage. A goal from Haemo Ku brought the Raiders to within one, but Central Gwinnett was able to hold Walton there with a one-man advantage after Walker Nance received a second yellow card, forcing him from the game. … Several Class AAAAAA teams posted shutouts Wednesday including Lowndes over Kennesaw Mountain, Harrison over Coffee, Douglas County over Rockdale County, North Cobb over Colquitt County, Berkmar over Etowah and East Coweta over Alcovy. … Chestatee received three goals from Cristian Felix as part of a five-goal outburst in the second half against LaGrange Wednesday.
