Davis picks UCF; two others commit out of state

Monday and Tuesday have seen a flurry of verbal commitments come from Georgia prospects, as three declared their college destinations over the last two days. The recruitment of Tucker linebacker Jonathan Davis has turned into a soap opera over the last couple weeks, as the former South Carolina commitment was recently notified that Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks would no longer be honoring their scholarship offer. The incident quickly became a national story and Spurrier and staff have taken a great deal of heat over the decision, especially from Tucker head coach Franklin Stephens, who has sworn to completely and forever cut the South Carolina program off from recruiting prospects in his program.

Davis, however, has since moved on, so much so that he has now settled another college of choice. On Monday, the 5-foot-9, 205-pound athlete gave his verbal pledge to the Knights of Central Florida, becoming UCF’s 20th overall commitment, sixth from the State of Georgia and second from a Tucker prospect (defensive back A.J. Bouye being the other).

According to his interview with UCFSports.com, a great visit to Central Florida a couple of weeks ago made Davis’s Monday evening visit with head coach George O’Leary the perfect time to make his commitment to UCF official.

“When I had my official visit there two weeks ago, UCF really caught my eye once again,” Davis said. “It’s just a great place. I was ready to commit tonight (Monday) when [wide receivers] Coach [David] Kelly and Coach O’Leary came to my house … Their facilities are great … They just built the stadium two years ago. Academically, they put everything in place for you to succeed … That’s one of my main things. I’m looking to major in early childhood education.”

Davis will have a great chance to play for the Knights as a freshman, though he is still undecided as to whether he will lineup at linebacker or safety on the next level.

TWO MORE COMMIT …

Joining Davis in the Monday commitment trend was Cedar Grove running back William Pratcher. The 5-9, 175-pound recruit chose Middle Tennessee over Boston College, among other schools. According to Rivals.com, Pratcher is a two-star recruit.

On Tuesday, Mill Creek defensive end Ryan Robinson gave his verbal pledge to Oklahoma State over offers from South Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Western Carolina and Kentucky. According to Rivals.com, the 6-4, 245-pound athlete is a two-star recruit. On the field, Robinson displays impressive strength, good athleticism and an impressive ability to fight off blocks. In Robinson, the Cowboys may have found a real sleeper.
