Norcross standout Diamond DeShields will enter her senior season with a pair of GHSA state basketball titles to her name and now an MVP award from the recent 2012 FIBA 17-U World Championship tournament. DeShields helped Team USA defeat Spain 75-62 as the Norcross star scored 13 points while collecting eight rebounds and dishing out five assists in the championship game. DeShields averaged 14.8 points per game to lead Team USA and attempted a team-high 108 field goals. She was also named to the All-Tournament team. This was her third gold medal as a part of USA Basketball, and she departs for Spain in September to compete in the 3-on-3 tournament.

“It never gets old, honestly,” said DeShields on the USA Basketball website in regards to winning a third gold medal. “It feels like the first one because this is the first time we all have been together. Every year is a different group, so it never gets old.”

DeShields’ former Norcross teammate Kaela Davis, who now plays for Buford, was also on the team and captured her second gold medal.
