Diante Drake puts up enormous numbers in loss to Parkview

The football team has struggled to produce points this season, and that was the team’s undoing in its last two Region 8-AAAAA games against South Gwinnett and Parkview. The 28-3 loss to South Gwinnett on Sept. 26 started with a Stephen Bott interception and things went downhill quickly for Central. The Comets scored early knockout blows with a fake punt that went for a score and a 40-yard direct snap to Aaron Wimberly on a fourth-down conversion. The 45-13 loss to Parkview last Friday was highlighted by an inspired effort from Diante Drake. Drake’s 206 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns (80 and 75 yards) weren’t nearly enough to keep up with the Tigers’ offense, however, but his performance should give head coach Ed Stokes something to build on for the Black Knights’ upcoming game hosting Shiloh on Friday. The offense should get a boost as the team gets Malcolm Moulton back from an early-season suspension. … The softball team took its 2-5 Region 8-AAAAA record to the region tournament, which started on Monday at Dacula. Results were not available at press time.
