Wolves post two consecutive shutout victories

The football team has been flexing its state-championship muscles over the past two weeks, as the Wolves beat region foes Decatur and Avondale. The Wolves’ visit to Decatur’s new stadium produced a 31-0 victory on Sept. 26. The defense shut down the Bulldogs, holding them to negative six yards in total offense en route to their second shutout of the season. Buford’s homecoming win against Avondale continued the defensive excellence, holding the Blue Devils to 113 total yards in the 49-7 romp last Friday. The Wolves got a big boost from their special teams play, as gamebreaker Cody Getz had a 48-yard punt return for a score and Alex Barton put the game away with a 95-yard kickoff return in the third quarter. … The softball team finished up an undefeated September by winning its final region game against Westminster, 5-0 on Sept. 25. The victory pushed Buford’s streak to 21 games without a loss heading into the Region 6-AA Tournament. The Lady Wolves won the opener of the region tourney against Greater Atlanta Christian 5-2 last Thursday. Their second-round game will be against the 19-12 Blessed Trinity Titans, as Buford tries to defend its state championship.
