ELITE JUNIOR CLASSIC: Josh Bettistea

Ron Hughes

Josh Bettistea is an accomplished back in high school football with only a year of playing time. After just one season at Allatoona High School, Josh has nearly 1,200 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns. Not only that, but he was splitting carries with a senior and, in 14 games, he was only called on 149 times. That’s eight yards per carry with a touchdown every 15th time he touches the ball. He’ll be called on a lot more this year, his junior season, as he is now the primary back for the Bucs.

Even with his great ability and opportunity, Josh would not take any of the credit. “All the credit goes to my teammates,” he said. “All those holes they make and all the long runs are because of how hard they’re working for me.”

He went on to explain that his teammates, especially his offensive line, supply support for him on and off the field like family.

Josh is not the only one that his teammates help out whenever they can. Josh and his teammates spend time promoting physical activity and health in their community’s middle and elementary schools with a Student Athletic Leadership program at Allatoona. They talk to kids about the importance of staying active and the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. On top of all that, Josh and his teammates will go to Kenworth Park to play kickball with students with special needs.

Bettistea definitely has a great attitude when it comes to approaching the game of football and life in general. He respects the game, appreciates how hard his teammates work, and has a great work ethic and drive that should jump him to the top of some schools recruiting lists.

He attended an Auburn camp this past summer and really liked the facilities and how their coaches ran the camp. For now Josh is focused on helping Allatoona win this year, but he also is mindful of his future.

“I’m not sure if anyone from my family has graduated from college, so it’s important to me that I can do that,” he said. “To be able to say I actually did it.”

For as talented as Josh is, there is little doubt that he will accomplish that goal.
