Falcons-Dolphins game sold out, Cox to start on Saturday and more

Amidst a struggling economy and talk of numerous NFL teams blacking out their home games on TV due to poor ticket sales, Falcons fans should be delighted to hear their game against the Dolphins on Sunday, their first of the season, is already sold out. Though some teams around the league are struggling for support, a surging Atlanta team coming off an impressive 11-5 campaign in 2008 was never seriously threatened by the possibility of blackouts, president Rich McKay recently stated.

Minnesota, San Diego and Jacksonville have publicly acknowledged that blackouts are possible in their respective cities. Under NFL rules, games are blacked out in the home team’s TV market if not sold out 72 hours prior to kick off.

After a somewhat mediocre performance against Oklahoma State last Saturday, rumors have been swirling that Georgia quarterback Joe Cox could miss a start this week when South Carolina visits Athens. According to Bulldog offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, however, that certainly is not the case: “Joe is the starter. Joe will be the starter Saturday,” said Bobo.

While Marietta tennis star Melanie Oudin has been on a recent tare on the court, all has apparently not been well in the home life of the teen celebrity. According to a Wednesday SI.com report, Oudin’s parents, John and Leslie, are currently seeking a divorce after the latter reportedly had an affair with Brian de Villiers, the 17-year-old Oudin’s tennis coach.

According to records, John and Leslie Oudin agreed to several conditions in a temporary order dated Dec. 16, 2008, including a stipulation “that (Leslie) will not interact with Brian de Villiers except as it specifically relates to the children’s tennis activities … (and) not to travel with Brian de Villiers to any tennis tournaments in which the children are participating.”

Melanie Oudin’s parents were married in 1989 and have three daughters.
