Falcons lose heartbreaker to Brookwood but clinch playoff berth with victory over Berkmar

The football team lost to Brookwood 9-6 in overtime on Oct. 24. Hunter Watts scored the Falcons’ only touchdown with a 5-yard run with 5:34 left in the fourth quarter. The extra point, however, was missed, sending the game into overtime, where Brookwood kicker Wade Brogdon kicked a game-winning 27-yard field goal. Dacula’s fortune changed, however, as the Falcons clinched a spot in the Class 5A playoffs last Friday with a 17-3 win over Berkmar. Watts rushed for two touchdowns in the second half. The Falcons will end their regular season this Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they welcome in the one-win Meadowcreek Mustangs. …The boys cross country team finished sixth in the Carrollton Last Chance meet on Oct. 25. Mike McClay led all runners with a time of 16:15. The boys finished fourth in the Region 8-AAAAA Championship last Saturday. In yet another impressive performance, McClay finished second overall, turning in a time of 15:52. The girls cross county team also finished fourth. Nina Kamber led the girls with a time of 20:50.
