Football blows past South Cobb; softball adds to win column in region games

The football team defeated South Cobb 42-14 on Friday. Robbie Godhigh ran the ball 16 times, picking up 173 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Christian Burnett threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns, including a 50-yard strike late in the second quarter. Christian Turnipseed scored on a 45-yard run just before the end of the half. The win pushed the Hoyas’ record to 3-0. … The volleyball team won its only scheduled match last week against Chapel Hill (25-9, 25-10, 25-15). The Lady Hoyas will compete in the Cobb County Tournament at Kell on Thursday. … In softball action, Harrison defeated Marietta (8-0) and Woodstock (8-2). The team’s overall record is 12-4-1 and they are 5-2 in the region. The Lady Hoyas travel to Sandy Plains Park on Friday to take on Wheeler and Dade County. … The boys and girls cross country teams both finished second overall at the Carrollton Invitational. Nick Cappadona paced the boys with a third-place finish with a time of 17:51.37. The girls team was led by Marrion Kalafut, who came in sixth-place with a time of 21:37.04.
