Football clinches postseason appearance; volleyball ends season in playoffs against Milton

After a late-season off week, the football team was back in action on Friday, traveling to Shiloh in an attempt to lock up a playoff berth. The team sat at 4-2 in Region 8-AAAA play entering the game, and Brandon Jacobs ran for 210 yards and two scores in the 35-0 Panther win. TaRon Squires, Clayton Wilkin and Kalik Barnes also each pitched in a touchdown. The team will face Brookwood at home on Friday. … The volleyball team finished No. 10 in the final regular-season GACA Coaches poll. The Lady Panthers, after winning the Area 8-AAAAA championship by beating Dacula, defeated Region 7-AAAAA’s Collins Hill, but fell to Milton 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-23) to end their season.  …The basketball teams both claimed Region 8-AAAAA regular-season championships last year, but both teams fell short in the playoffs. The boys team lost three straight to end the season and head coach Tim Watkins will rely on Josh Levine and Dionte Mandledove after the team lost Yaw Gyawu to graduation. The girls team, meanwhile, will be led by junior Lauren Coleman, who came into her own last year during the playoffs.
