Football defeats South Gwinnett, softball wins region opener

The football team evened its record at 1-1 with a solid win over South Gwinnett 30-18 on Youth Appreciation Night at South Forsyth. Brian Adams led the Eagles with 161 yards by ground, highlighted by a 76-yard scoring scamper. Wendell Early will chase his second victory as head coach against North Gwinnett this Friday. … The softball team (4-5 at press time) won its region opener against cross-county rivals North Forsyth 7-1. The Lady War Eagles were led by sophomore hurler Alexis Ditmar, who tossed a complete-game two-hitter to stifle the Lady Raider offense. Ditmar also had 10 strikeouts, which is her season high. Head coach Ronnie Davis’s team will play a string of region games starting with Northview this week. … The volleyball team had a winning week, going 5-1 last week. The Lady War Eagles (12-5 at press time) played four matches on Saturday, defeating North Springs, Southeast Whitfield and Dunwoody before falling to top-ranked (Gasports.com/GACA coaches Class 3A poll) St. Pius in the final game of the day. The team will play its next two matches against Alpharetta, and Riverwood on Thursday.
