Football readies for North Paulding; softball stumbles in region tourney

The football team has not played in a game since Oct. 3, when the Buccaneers lost to North Paulding. Head coach Gary Varner is preparing his team for the rest of the season. “We’re trying to get better on the practice field and in the weight room,” said Varner. “It should be a good test of character against North Paulding.” The team will next face North Paulding again on Oct. 31. … The volleyball team ended its first season with a 3-21 record after losses to Lithia Springs and Hillgrove. … The softball team finished the regular season with a 16-15 overall record and an impressive 8-1 region record, which was good enough for first place in  Region 7-AAAA. The Lady Bucs were unable to advance through the losers bracket, however, falling to Woodland-Bartow 4-1. The team was led by pitcher Caitlin O’Shea all year long. She helped contribute to eight shutout victories on the year. … The cross country teams had a couple of nice finishes at the Cobb Championships. Corbin Williams finished fifth overall with a time of 18:16.20 in the 5,000-meter run. Natalie Buckshaw finished 12th for the girls with a time of 22:49.89.
