Freshman sparks Parkview girls soccer

Parkview freshman Emma Carlson scored four goals in her team’s 5-0 win over rival Brookwood Tuesday. The win gave the Panthers the Region 8-AAAAAA championship as they finished the year 8-0, a game ahead of Brookwood. … Marist won both Region 6-AAAA titles yet again as the girls team beat Grady 6-1 Tuesday to claim its eighth such championship in a row. Also on Tuesday, the boys team defeated Chamblee 5-1 to clinch its second straight region crown and third in four years. … St. Pius X scored a pair of victories in the past week, as the Golden Lions mauled Decatur 6-0 Tuesday behind two goals each from Calvin Jackson and Tyler Alexander while also getting scores from Sam Bonnie and J.D. Manzo. On Friday, St. Pius X outclassed Woodward Academy 6-1 as Alexander again found the back of the net twice and Jackson, Manzo, Edmundo Robinson and David McNabb also notched goals. … Westminster knocked off Class AA No. 1 Greater Atlanta Christian Tuesday 2-1 in a Region 6-AA match. Each team ended the season with a 5-1 region record, as they split two regular season games. … Greater Atlanta Christian’s girls, meanwhile, edged Westminster 2-1 to end the season with a perfect 6-0 record. … Pope clinched the Region 7-AAAAA championship with a 4-1 win over Northview Thursday. The Greyhounds’ girls team, meanwhile, came in second in after edging Northview in a penalty kick shootout. … Arabia Mountain clinched its first soccer postseason in school history when the Rams’ girls team finished fourth in Region 6-AAAAA. Coach Tricia Silvera’s squad accomplished the feat in the program’s fourth year of existence.
