GHSA State Duals Tournament updates from Thursday

The GHSA Team Dual Wrestling Championships began at the Macon Centreplex on Thursday and at the end of the day the semifinals schedule was determined. The losers on Thursday dropped down to the consolation bracket and will wrestle for 3rd/4th place.

Here’s a look at what took place.

Class AAAAAAA: Camden County’s bid for its sixth-straight duals championship is alive and well after victories over Parkview 74-0 in the first round and Mountain View 58-15 in the quarterfinals. Camden will face West Forsyth in the semis after it moved past Newnan 74-6 and Rockdale County 55-15 to earn its semifinal berth. North Forsyth beat East Coweta 57-10 and Brookwood 44-18 to advance to the semifinals where it will face Collins Hill, which beat Colquitt County 47-25 and McEachern 48-19 to advance to the semis.

Class AAAAAA: Richmond Hill defeated Sequoyah 51-22 and Coffee County 42-24 to advance to the semifinals where it will wrestle Cambridge. The Bears beat Lanier 57-24 in the first round and Alexander 33-28 to earn their semifinal berth. Pope defeated defending-champion Valdosta 48-21 and Brunswick 51-9 to earn its semifinal berth against Creekview, whose path to the semis went through South Paulding 56-17 and Gainesville 71-3.

Class AAAAA: Woodland-Cartersville will face Ola, and Buford will wrestle Veterans in the semifinals. Woodland beat Miller Grove 81-0 and Walnut Grove 70-12 in the first two rounds. Ola defeated South Effingham 58-17 and Harris County 37-32 to earn its semifinal berth. Buford’s path to the semis went through Decatur 78-0 and Ware County 54-23. Veterans earned its semifinal berth after beating Starr’s Mill 74-6 and Union Grove 50-22.

Class AAAA: Woodward Academy defeated West Lauren 55-24 and Cartersville 45-30 to earn its semifinal berth against Blessed Trinity. The Titans beat Madison County 58-21 and Northwest Whitfield 44-30 in the first two rounds. Central-Carroll and Gilmer will be wrestling for a championship berth on the other side of the bracket. Central-Carroll earned its semifinals berth with a 69-12 victory over Burke County in the first round and a 41-32 victory over North Oconee in the quarterfinals. Gilmer moved past Flowery Branch 48-22 and Perry 36-31 to earn its semifinal berth.

Class AAA: Jefferson had a bye in the first round before beating Stone Mountain 49-20 to earn its semifinals berth against Sonoraville. The Phoenix beat Lovett 48-18 in the quarterfinals after a bye in the first round. Jackson County beat Adairsville 51-24 in the quarterfinals and will wrestle North Hall in the semifinals. North Hall beat Pike County 54-14 in the quarterfinals after a bye in the first round.

Class AA: After a bye in the first round, Social Circle defeated Callaway 66-16 in the quarterfinals to earn a semifinal berth against Toombs County. Toombs beat Dade County 39-36 in the quarterfinals. Elbert County advanced to the semifinals after a 55-17 victory over Lamar County in the quarterfinals. Chattooga beat Bremen 59-24 to earn its semifinal berth against Elbert County.

Class A: Commerce enjoyed a bye in the first round before defeated Irwin County 66-18 to earn a berth in the semis where it will wrestle Holy Innocents’. The Golden Bears defeated Mt. Zion 49-27 after a bye in the first round. Mount Pisgah defeated Turner County 49-21 after a bye in the first round. It will wrestle Trion, which beat Landmark Christian 66-6 in the quarterfinals.
