HALFTIME BLOG: Rough shooting from both teams characterizes opening stanza

Another SEC game at Stegeman Coliseum, another poor shooting first half. Georgia is tied with South Carolina 31-31 at the half of a game where neither team shot well. Apparently, the chilly/snowy conditions outside are affecting both teams in doors.

The Cocks appear to be suffering the most, shooting a putrid 37.5% from the floor. The Bulldogs are not doing much better, shooting just 40.7%.

Despite their awful shooting, the Cocks took a 16-9 lead midway through the half on two consecutive Ramon Galloway three-pointers.

However, Georgia would fight back with the help of a Dustin Ware three and a three-point play by Chris Barnes. After the quick flurry, UGA led 24-19 at 3:521 in the half.

Georgia was led in scoring by Trey Thompkins, who poured in 10. The Dawgs also played solid defense on Carolina star Devan Downey, who was held to just nine points on just 3-9 shooting. Downey, who is averaging a league-high 23 points, had only three points going into the final minute of the half, when he nailed two threes.
