Jackets drop 21-20 nailbiter to Northwest Whitfield

The football team suffered two tough losses to Lassiter and Dalton in its first two games and was looking to get its first win of the year on Friday against Northwest Whitfield. The Yellow Jackets got on the board first when quarterback Forrest Holt scored on an 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He then scored on another 8-yard run in the second quarter and the Yellow Jackets held onto a small lead at halftime. Northwest Whitfield stormed back in the third quarter thanks to quarterback Dean Haynes, who scored on a 10-yard touchdown run. The score ended up being the clincher, as the Jackets fell 21-20. Sprayberry will try to get win No. 1 on Friday as they take on Starr’s Mill. … The softball team picked up its second Region 6-AAAAA win of the year, defeating North Paulding 4-0 last week. The Jackets will take on North Cobb on Wednesday. … The volleyball team defeated McEachern and Riverwood on Saturday. With those two wins, the Yellow Jackets have won 13 matches and will try to keep the momentum going against McEachern again on Thursday.
