Jackets take down Starr’s Mill for first victory

The football team was able to get its first win of the year by defeating Starr’s Mill 23-14 on Friday night. Quarterback Forest Holt led the charge with 18 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. David Carter also ran well with 47 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Starr’s Mill put up more total yards of offense than Sprayberry but turned the ball over twice. The Yellow Jackets will try to get their second win of the season when they travel to Osborne on Oct. 3. … The volleyball team defeated McEachern and Alexander on Thursday to improve its record to 16-7. Lanie Bakeberg led the Lady Yellow Jackets with three kills and 44 assists. The team will play in the Cobb County Tournament on Thursday at Kell. … The softball team is heating up as it defeated North Paulding 4-0 and Hiram 9-8 last week. With the two wins, the team’s record in the region is now 3-2. The Lady Jackets will face Paulding County on Thursday in the regular-season finale. The team will compete in the region tournament on Saturday, Oct. 4.
