Kennesaw Mountain tennis finding success

The Kennesaw Mountain tennis teams took part over the weekend in the Golden Isles Invitational at Jekyll Island and the boys returned home with a title. Kennesaw Mountain swatted Pierce County and Lowndes 4-1 to earn the right to face Glynn Academy for the title. The Mustangs were led by Aaron Barris, Joe Klokow and Matthew Osajima en route to a 5-0 victory. Barris’ victory pushed him to 46 career wins, a new Kennesaw Mountain team record. The girls finished third. … The Walton girls improved to 11-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Wheeler in the first round of the Region 5-AAAAAA tournament. The Raiders next face Etowah on April 16. … The Brookwood programs completed a perfect week last week, sweeping Central Gwinnett 5-0, 5-0 last Tuesday before whitewashing Berkmar on Thursday. The girls continued to dominate Monday, blasting South Gwinnett 5-0. Gabby Griffith, Alex Adams and Maddy Stanitzke all earned victories. The boys also claimed a 5-0 victory. … The North Gwinnett girls played three matches in three days last week and came away with three impressive victories. After blanking Mountain View 5-0, the Bulldogs edged past Norcross 4-1 before blanking Duluth. North Gwinnett returns to action today when the Bulldogs host Collins Hill in the team’s final region match of the regular season. … The Collins Hill boys rebounded from a 4-1 loss to Norcross last Monday to sweep Habersham Central and Meadowcreek 5-0. … Gainesville slipped past Flowery Branch 3-2 in boys Region 8-AAAAA play last Thursday. Graham McKinnon and Jackson Goble each earned a singles point and the Red Elephants claimed one of the two doubles matches to snare the victory. … The Lanier boys pushed North Hall in a 4-1 Trojans’ victory. Lanier earned the No. 3 singles point and nearly came away with another singles point at No. 2 but North Hall’s Jackson Davis won in a tiebreaker. … Finally, the Southwest DeKalb boys got off to a hot 10-0 start thanks in part to the Panthers’ success in doubles. The No. 1 team of Jabari Scott/Stephen Lamar was 6-0 as of last Tuesday while the combination of Lamar/Darrius Winns was 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. Winns/Taron Graham are 4-0 in No. 2 doubles play. In singles action, sophomore Kimani Deveaux is 8-2 on the year at No. 1 while Corey Carter is 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Overall, Carter is 8-0 on the year. The Southwest DeKalb girls are also impressive in doubles play as the team of Peri Green/Destini Willis is 10-0 while the Ashleigh Farmer/Kristin Wilson team is 5-0.
