King’s Ridge wins first state title, Charlton forces Game 3

Class A-Private

King’s Ridge 10-7, Mt. Paran 3-2: Visiting King’s Ridge swept Mt. Paran to win its first state championship. King’s Ridge went 17-13 last season and capped off a school record 26-win season (26-4) in the deciding Game 2. In Game 1, Connor Burns belted three homers in three at bats and The Tigers jumped to a lopsided 10-1 lead after the third inning. After a dominating 10-3 Game 1 victory, King’s Ridge took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning of Game 2. The Tigers strung together four runs and took a 5-2 lead into the sixth inning. Grayson Byrd sealed the game with another Tigers homer and made it 7-2 before the Tigers got their final three outs.

Class A-Public

Gordon Lee 13-3, Charlton County 7-7: Defending Class A-Public state champion Charlton County was dominated in Game 1 by visiting Gordon Lee 13-7. The Indians needed a solid outing from pitcher LJ Talley in Game 2 to keep their season alive and he delivered. Talley struck out eight batters and surrendered just two runs over seven innings and Charlton County took a 7-3 victory. Game 3 of the championship series will be Monday at 2 pm.
