Louis Daniel was named Lambert’s new head coach Friday morning, making him just the second head coach in the young program’s history. Daniel replaces Sid Maxwell, who retired from head coach this offseason after a 27-year coaching career. Daniel brings 14 years of coaching experience to the job, including nine years of assistant coaching at Sequoyah High School (2000-2009). Daniel joined Lambert in 2009 and has served as the offensive coordinator while helping the school post a 36-17 record.

Daniel’s first day as new head coach began with a team meeting that gave him the opportunity to share his visions and goals to the players.

“The meeting this morning went very well,” said Daniel. “Being a coordinator you do not always get to forge a relationship with each player like you do when you are the head coach and the man in charge… Coach Maxwell has done so many good things at Lambert that I want to keep in place but at the same time I have a vision and my own direction that I want to bring to this program.”

With Daniel at the helm, Andy LeBlanc will take over the offensive coordinator duties this upcoming season after serving as the team’s tight ends coach in previous years. Like Daniel, LeBlanc has been with the program from its beginning.

Lambert opened its doors for the first time in 2009 and in four seasons it has never finished with a losing record. Seeing the school grow since its inception is something that Daniel keeps fresh on his mind when planning for the future and evaluating where it stands today.

“Building the program from the ground up has shown me the issues,” admitted Daniel. “I’ve been there through the first ugly practices our first spring. Seeing the growth allows you to have perspective when you can look back to where we were at as a program in 2009 compared to 2014. We’ve come a long way but there is still a long way to go.”

Lambert baseball is one of the sports that the Longhorns excel in during the spring and the amount of multi-sport athletes at the school has postponed Daniel’s field debut until summer. The Longhorns will not hold spring practice and will instead add a second scrimmage before the season. The hire will become official when the board meets on April 17.
