Lions stave off pesky N. Forsyth, 34-23

Despite the absence of linebacker Kevin Minter, an LSU commitment, and four other regulars, the football team defeated North Forsyth 34-23 last Friday. The passing game was key for the Lions as quarterback Nick Lombardo connected with wide receiver Mitchell Williford 10 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions play at Duluth this Friday at 7:30 p.m. … The softball team lost to Dacula 11-1 last Thursday, but bounced back to defeat Wesleyan and Pike County before losing to Warner Robins 8-0 in the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday. Callie Fernandez was the winning pitcher against Pike County and also added a triple at the plate. Fernandez had three RBIs in the win against Wesleyan. The girls play Marist this Wednesday at 5 p.m. … The boys cross country team finished third at the Gwinnett County Championship Meet last Saturday. Robert Fensterer was the top Lions performer with a time of 16:32. The girls cross country team finished third in the Gwinnett County Championship Meet last Saturday. Sara Curry led Peachtree Ridge with a time of 19:53.
