Multiple series decided Monday night

Teams took the diamond Monday for rubber matches after rain postponed Sunday’s Game 3′s. In Class AAAAAA, Mill Creek took Game 3 over Alpharetta 3-2 to win the series 2-1. Parkview dropped its Game 1 to Etowah 11-6, but came back in Game 2 to win 12-7 on Friday. The Panthers got a 6-3 Game 3 win Monday and will advance to play Peachtree Ridge, which won 5-1 over West Forsyth to close the series. Brookwood at Milton, Tift County at McEachern, South Gwinnett at Walton and Grayson at Roswell were all postponed again for weather and will be set to play Tuesday.

In Class AAAAA Whitewater closed out Northside-Columbus 4-1 in Game 3, and will visit Lakeside-Evans for its second-round matchup. Lakeside-DeKalb at Creekview and South Paulding at Winder-Barrow were postponed.

Statesboro fell 5-0 in Game 1 on Friday, but bounced back with a 4-0 shutout in the backend of Friday’s double-header. The Class AAAA teams found themselves in a Game 3 pitching duel, and Statesboro advanced to take on Crisp County after getting a 1-0 victory. Grady and Northwest Whitfield will be played on Tuesday.

Class AAA was fortunate to get its games in and Appling County swept Central-Carroll 7-4, 2-0. St. Pius X beat Buford 7-4 in their Game 3 and the Golden Lions will visit North Oconee in Round 2. Callaway held off Southeast Bulloch 5-2 to take the series 2-1, and Swainsboro ignited to a 13-6 win over Peach County to advance.

Class AA had two series left to settle Monday, but both were postponed until Tuesday. Greater Atlanta Christian took its Game 1 6-1, before falling 4-3 to Pepperell in Game 2. Bowdon at Union County featured a 7-1 win by Union County in the top half of the doubleheader and a 5-2 win by Bowdon in the second game. The winners of these two series will square off in Round 2 of the Class AA bracket.

In Class A, Turner County needed just four minutes to claim the 2-1 advantage in the series. The No. 13 seeded Rebels were matched up with No. 4 seed Baconton Charter and resumed the game that was postponed in the eighth inning on Saturday. The teams were tied 4-4 and Luke Soliday got on base with a walk after Taber Raley struck out Grant Muse to open the inning. Jacob McIntosh was intentionally walked to set up the potential inning-ending double play, but Rob Calhoun was able to get on base with the third walk of the inning. Kendall Kicklighter then went deep into right field to score Soliday. Four minutes later, and silent Blazers were out of the playoffs in the first round.

Charlton County swept Marion County 2-0 after 10-2 and 5-0 wins. Treutlen made quick work of Clinch County 5-0 and 3-1 to stamp its 2-0 series win. Johnson County took Game 3 over Miller County 8-0 and Holy Innocents’ beat Mt. Pisgah 8-2 to escape the first round. Lincoln County pulled off the No. 16 seed upset over No. 1 seed Emanuel County Institute with a 7-3 win in Game 3. Lincoln County will get Treutlen on Wednesday in Round 2.
