Positive high school athlete awards

Scott Pederson

Four years ago, what started as a positive movement by Hines Ward and Scott Pederson, founder and CEO of Celebrate Positive in Pittsburgh, has made its way to Atlanta.

Positive Athlete Georgia is an annual awards ceremony that honored western Pennsylvania athletes for promoting positivity with their on and off-the-field exploits.

The inaugural Georgia state award ceremony will take place Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Hank McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.

Alongside Ward, former Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons player Brian Jordan and former Georgia Tech athletic director Homer Rice will be among the many local current and former professional athletes that will host Saturday’s event.

The event follows the inaugural county award ceremony, the Cobb County Positive High School Athlete Awards that took place last Saturday at NorthStar Church in Kennesaw, Ga.

Pederson helped to spread awareness of the program to the metro Atlanta athletic directors by meeting with Cobb County athletic director, Steve Jones, and director of athletics for Fulton County schools, Steven Craft.

Kennesaw Mountain softball player Madi Lewis, Pope wrestler Tyler Haskin, Walton gymnast Natalie Bauer and South Cobb golfer Nick Arnold will be recognized as the state’s “Most Positive Athletes” for their respective sports.
