WRESTLING NOTEBOOK: Brookwood wins Warrior Duals

Parkview traveled to Hilton Head, S.C. to participate in the Seahawk Slam last Thursday. Thanks to eight placers, Parkview finished fifth out of 24 teams. Parkview was led by Kamaal Fhakur’s win in the 132-pound class. Khalil Fhakur finished second in the 160-pound class and An Vu (113) and Harrison Schmid (195) each finished fourth. Jordan Matlack (138), Will Anderson (120), Andrew Webb (126) and Edwin Lindsey (145) also helped Parkview with high finishes. … Douglas County hosted a quad meet Thursday and Meadowcreek dominated the event. Meadowcreek beat Villa Rica 63-15, Douglas County 57-20 and Lithia Springs 78-6. Key performers for Meadowcreek included Dante Bennett (120), Rene Deluna (126), Angelo Pineda (132), Alex Steele (160), O.G. Harden (170), Ryan Moore (182) and Alex Lucio (285). … Jefferson High School will head to Rochester, Minn. for the two-day Clash National Duals Tournament this Friday and Saturday. Jefferson is 8-0 this season in duals meets. Forrest Przybysz is Jefferson’s lone undefeated wrestler. … Collins Hill fell to the No. 5 team in the nation, according to Amateur Wrestling News, Brandon (Fla.) last Wednesday in the Kyle Maynard Duals. Brandon won seven straight matches to take the meet 38-24, which was held on the Collins Hill campus. The Eagles defeated Mannatee (Fla.) 54-21, Cass 69-6, Peachtree Ridge 59-15 and Baylor (Tenn.) 43-30 to set up a finals showdown against Brandon. Sean Russell (108), Spencer Rickman (138) and Zach Carmin (285) were three of the winners for Collins Hill. … Brookwood won the Warrior Duals Thursday by defeating Class AAA South Carolina state champion West Oak. Blake Cunningham, Wyatt Jozwowski and Troy Long each were undefeated in five tournament matches for the Broncos. Also, Terrell Anderson, Alex Cao and Stephen Solamon finished with 4-1 records while Caleb Harris, Charles Lee, Drew McCorkle and Josh Moore were 3-2. Gordon Lopez went 3-1 in the meet for Brookwood. … Archer continued its run of success on the mats by winning the silver pool division of the Smokey Mountain Duals Friday. The Tigers went 6-2 in the tournament including wins against Holy Innocents’ 49-16, Gibbs (Tenn.) 51-16, Notre Dame (Tenn.) 54-16, Pigeon Forge (Tenn.) 36-31, and Wilson Central (Tenn.) 59-12. Archer lost to Larue (Ky.) 36-21 and Carrollton 41-36. … Ernest Alexander, Sam Bullard and Hunter McCleskey each went undefeated for Archer. … Speaking of the Golden Bears, Holy Innocents’ won a duals meet over Campbell, Roswell and Marist on Dec. 17. John Hiles, Court Fanning, Brendan Quigley, Grant Chastain, and Jason Grimes each went undefeated for coach Jeff Walrich’s squad.
