Quarterbacks compete in Golden Arm Challenge

Flanagan High School junior Ryan Stanley won the overall challenge title Saturday as awarded by Golden Arm Challenge creator Tony Ballard. Stanley has offers from UAB and FIU and is coached at Flanagan by former St. Louis Ram Devin Bush. The QBs spent Friday in the classroom working on the mental side of the game before hitting the field Saturday for a day of drills and skills tests.

In the 2015 class, De’Andre Johnson won the top prize. Johnson is an FSU commitment who also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Michigan State, Ohio State and Tennessee, among several others. His will be a name to watch in the next few years to see if he signs with FSU and if he will replace Jameis Winston with the Noles. Johnson beat out a talented field of juniors including USC commitment Ricky Towns.

Veterans QB Logan Byrd won the 2016 Golden Arm Showcase after out dueling his classmates in the classroom and on the field this weekend at Centennial High School.

Byrd has offers from Charlotte, Duke, Illinois and NC State.

Davis Mills of GAC and Todd Centieo of West Palm Beach, Fla tied for 2017 top honors. Mills will look to take over for Rafe Chapple, now at Yale, as GAC’s starting QB next year.
