REBELS ROLL: Dawgs overwhelmed on the glass by Ole Miss

Despite a late comeback attempt, Georgia was handed its fourth loss in five SEC games today by Ole Miss in a 66-63 affair. The Bulldogs fell to 10-9 overall.

Freshman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope dropped 25 points for the Dawgs while guard Gerald Robinson had 19.

Georgia trailed most of the game, including an 11-point deficit at the half and a game-high of 15 with 6:31 remaining. But Georgia kept fighting. Trailing by 10 points with 47 seconds left, the Hawks cut it to two with 12 seconds left after two three-pointers by KCP and four points from Robinson. It was too little, too late, however, as Ole Miss held onto its once large lead.

The loss dampened the Bulldogs’ enthusiasm after Wednesday’s inspiring victory over Tennessee. With traditionally mediocre Ole Miss coming into town, it looked as if the Dawgs might put together a little SEC winning streak. But the Rebels owned the glass 43-32 while Georgia struggled with foul trouble and shooting.

Now, the Bulldogs will face No. 2 Kentucky on Tuesday night. And, with No. 1 Syracuse getting worked at Notre Dame tonight, it appears as if the Wildcats will come in as the top-ranked team in America.

White it looks like Georgia can rely on KCP and Robinson to score, the rebounding and shooting issues persist. In order to put together a respectable season and a potential postseason bid, the Dawgs need to figure out how to improve in those two areas.

However, it has been a topsy-turvy year in college hoops, so don’t give up on Georgia yet. Don’t be surprised if the Dawgs give Kentucky a tough game Tuesday night.
