Reid trims list as signing day nears

The recruitment of Greg Reid became a whole lot more exciting recently when the former Florida Gator commit decided to open things back up. Though he didn’t say it so plainly at the time, I got the feeling that Reid’s top priority had become finding a place where he could play early. And, with young stars Joe Haden (junior) and Janoris Jenkins (sophomore) forming perhaps the nation’s finest cornerback tandem, it was only a matter of time before Reid eliminated the Gators from contention all together.

Well, as it turns out, it didn’t take long for this happen. In fact, all it took was an official visit to Gainesville, which Greg returned from last Sunday.

“There wasn’t much to talk about. I mean with their situation at corner, I asked [coach Meyer] if I would play there, and he wasn’t sure about it with the freshman and sophomore already there,” Reid explained. “I know a lot of people wanted me there, and I have not told them yet…No hard feelings, just time to move on.”

Understandably, Meyer has been a bit perturbed with Reid over the last week or so, citing Florida’s long-term commitment to Reid (Florida offered a scholarship and received a verbal pledge from the Lowndes star during his junior season) in contrast to all the other teams, who started showing interest in Greg only recently after his impressive performances at two all-star games.

Now, with the Gators eliminated and despite his recent claims of interest in multiple schools, the fight for Reid’s services will come down to FSU and Georgia. Reid has already visited Tallahassee and has a trip to Athens scheduled for the weekend of January 30.

THE RECRUITING SCENE

Scout came out with an interesting article today in which they break down the country’s finest programs when it comes to recruiting football talent. In all, ten programs were singled out as the best, two were placed in the “Just Missed” category, and three were acknowledged as “Sleepers.” Anyway, it’s a good read so I provided the link for those of you interested.
