UGA walk-ons rewarded

Georgia ended its fall camp Saturday after holding two practices, and Mark Richt had a surprise for seven of his players. The head coach extended scholarships to five walk-ons for the first time and renewed the scholarships of two other walk-ons. The five walk-ons receiving scholarships for the first time are junior defensive back Luis Capella, redshirt freshman fullback Merritt Hall, junior wide receiver Rhett McGowan, redshirt sophomore defensive back Connor Norman and redshirt sophomore linebacker Kosta Vavlas. Junior running back Brandon Harton and junior defensive back Blake Sailors had their scholarships renewed.

STILL GROWING …

The 2013 recruiting class continues to grow for Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs. The team gained its 25th commitment of 2013 and it came from a familiar source. Plant (Fla.) High School safety Paris Bostick stated his desire to play football at the University of Georgia earlier Monday and is the program’s third committed safety in the class along with Tray Matthews and Quincy Mauger. Bostick is the third Plant player in the past five years to commit to the Bulldogs. The other two are former Bulldog tight end Orson Charles and current quarterback Aaron Murray.

INJURY REPORT …

Defensive end Ray Drew, albeit in a green no-contact jersey, returned to practice after a missing last week due to a concussion. Tailback Brandon Harton returned to practice after missing a few days because of a hip contusion. Freshman tight end Ty Smith appeared in a green jersey as well for the first time due to a fatigued hamstring. Cornerbacks Branden Smith, Damian Swann and Malcolm Mitchell were also limited.
