UGA’s Samuel to miss spring football practice

Georgia tailback Richard Samuel underwent left wrist surgery Wednesday in Athens to repair injured ligaments. According to Ron Courson, the Director of Sports Medicine, he will be in a cast for three months and will then have a second surgery to remove surgical hardware.

Samuel suffered the injury on Jan. 1 during the Bulldogs’ 24-12 victory over Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl. He will miss spring practice but is expected to fully recover before the start of the 2009 season. With Knowshon Moreno declaring for the NFL draft, Samuel will be competing for the starting tailback slot.
