Wednesday Roundup: Green ready to return for Dawgs, Spurrier to return

The University of Georgia will get its number one receiver back this weekend as AJ Green returns to action after missing last week’s contest against Tennessee Tech. Green suffered a bruised lung against the Florida Gators and sat out last week’s 38-0 win. Joe Cox threw for two touchdowns in that game. Georgia faces Auburn this weekend, kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Former Georgia Tech and Atlanta Brave first baseman Mark Teixeira earned a Gold Glove on Tuesday as the fielding awards were announced for the American League. His Yankee teammate Derek Jeter also took home the fielding prize for the shortstop position. Rawlings has presented the award since 1957. The National League winners will be announced today.

Despite rumors and potentially another poor finish, South Carolina Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier said Tuesday that he planned to return to the sidelines next season and “hopefully…go three or four more years.” The Gamecocks are 6-4 with games against No.1 Florida and No.23 Clemson remaining. Spurrier also told reporters that he planned to be more involved in playcalling on the offensive side of the ball.

Finally CNNSI.com’s Jim Trotter, in a second-half prediction for the rest of the 2009-10 NFL season, plays soothseyer in saying that the Saints will not go 16-0. Trotter believes New Orleans will go 12-0 but then suffer its first loss of the year at the Georgia Dome to the Atlanta Falcons. He has the Saints winning the division, but Atlanta making the playoffs as a wild card team.
