Week 9 Football Rankings

Lowndes takes the No. 1 spot in 7A.

Lowndes just edges out Archer at the top of Class AAAAAAA after the Vikings held off previous No. 10 Tift County on the road and Archer ended Grayson’s 20-game win streak at Archer. Grayson falls to just fourth, and Walton moves to third after a comfortable win over Roswell. Undefeated South Forsyth earns another strong win, over Milton last Friday, to come in at No. 9. The order stayed the same from Nos. 5-8.

Lee County scored a win in one of the biggest games in Class AAAAAA all season, a 16-13 victory over Northside-Warner Robins at home. Northside only switches places (Nos. 5 and 6) with Coffee, two schools with very similar resumes. Stephenson is on a roll with a five-game winning streak after two opening losses and checks in at No. 10; Douglas County, which managed just a three-point win over one-win Tri-Cities, drops out.

The question in Class AAA is: Can anyone beat Cedar Grove? The Saints have rolled through region 5-AAA and are a shoe-in for another region title and deep playoff run. After falling to the new No. 10 Morgan County, previously tenth Monroe Area fell from the top 10.

Benedictine is in the lead of Class AA again this week. The Cadets slipped past Toombs County last week 28-14. No. 2 Hapeville Charter destroyed B.E.S.T. last week 49-0. Callaway, previously No. 5, lost to Heard County 35-28, settling at No. 10. Heard, previously tenth, moved up to ninth.
