Week 9 Football Rankings

In Class 7A, Buford ascended to No. 1 with its 39-27 win over Mill Creek that improved the Wolves to 7-0 and 2-0 in Region 8. All-American running back Justice Haynes—who transferred to Buford after spending his first three years at Blessed Trinity—needed just 156 yards to become the sixth player in state history to reach 7,000 career yards and he achieved that with a dominant 216-yard performance with two touchdowns. Colquitt County improved to No. 2 and Mill Creek slid to No. 3 ahead of No. 4 Carrollton and No. 5 Valdosta. Grayson moved up to No. 8, Walton moved up to No. 9 and Lambert replaced Kennesaw Mountain at No. 10.

The Class 6A poll did not shift and No. 1 Hughes, No. 2 Lee County, No. 4 Rome, No. 5 Thomas County Central and No. 8 Houston County were all off this week. No. 3 Gainesville improved to 7-0 with a 34-0 win over Habersham Central, No. 6 Roswell beat Pope 56-3, No. 7 Woodward Academy beat Rockdale County 56-7, No. 9 Marist beat South Cobb 43-7 and No. 10 Blessed Trinity beat Johns Creek 44-7.

In Class 5A, No. 1 Ware County topped Bradwell Institute 48-0 to retain its status. Coffee moved up to No. 2, Creekside ascended to No. 3 ahead of No. 4 Cartersville and Cambridge moved up from No. 10 to No. 5 after its 42-24 win over Kell. Loganville remains No. 6 ahead of No. 7 Calhoun, Jefferson improved a spot to No. 8, Kell dropped to No. 9 and Warner Robins returns to the poll at No. 10.

Class 4A No. 1 North Oconee led 48-0 at the half of its 48-0 win over East Forsyth and has compiled a 50.2 average margin of victory during its 5-0 Region 8 start. Perry’s 35-0 win over Baldwin moved the Panthers up to No. 3, No. 2 Cedartown, No. 4 Troup, No. 7 Trinity Christian, No. 8 Whitewater and No. 10 LaGrange were all off this week. No. 5 Benedictine defeated Southeast Bulloch 52-7, No. 6 Bainbridge topped Shaw 42-13 and No. 9 Burke County defeated Islands 63-0.

A shuffle in the Class 3A top five was the result of then-No. 4 Sandy Creek’s 22-12 victory over then-No. 2 Carver-Atlanta. Sandy Creek climbed to No. 3, Carver fell to No. 4. Cedar Grove tops the class and Calvary Day climbed to No. 2 and Dougherty is again at No. 5 this week.

In Class 2A, Fitzgerald leads the way with South Atlanta, Cook, Appling County and Thomson rounding out the top 5. In Class A Division I, Prince Avenue Christian, Rabun County, Swainsboro, Irwin County and Brooks County top the class. Early County is the team to beat in Class A Division II with Johnson County, Clinch County, Bowdon and Charlton chasing.
