Westminster wins final gymnastics tuneup

Teams will head to Lovett this Friday and Saturday to take part in the State Gymnastics Qualifying Meet. The state championships will take place at Westminster next Saturday. … Thomasville elected to cancel an added meet scheduled for last week. Defending champion Tift County was scheduled to take part; however, due to the cancellation, the Blue Devils finish the year undefeated. … Cartersville took first place at a meet held last Wednesday at the Westminster School. Cartersville scored a 102.1 to slide past the host Wildcats 100.7. Sydney Lauryn Barrett took home the all-around title after finishing first on vault and bars. Alecia Price won the beam event and tied for second with teammate Victoria Hickom on bars. Price was third in the all-around. Maddie Cravey placed third on floor. Cambridge and Milton also took part in the meet. … Westminster hosted one final tuneup before the qualifying meet, defeating Walton, Pope and Chattahoochee with a top score of 104.9 last night. … In other gymnastics news, Libby Barbour of Tift County signed with SUNY-Cortland to compete for Cortland’s gymnastics program. Barbour has competed for Tift County since her freshman year and last year finished fifth in the all-around competition behind teammate Beth Roberts. Barbour finished second at the GHSA state championship meet on beam and floor.
