Woodstock girls take Wolverine Invitational track title

At the Northwest Invitational at Northwest Whitfield High School, Susan Meinders was one of three Dalton girls to capture individual races as she won the 400 meter dash and the 300 meter hurdles. Adriana Bryant won the 100 meter dash while Mary Morrow won the 200 meter dash for Dalton. Despite the individual success, Dalton finished third with 123 points behind Northwest Whitfield (144) and second-place finisher Southeast Whitfield (124). … The Northwest Whitfield boys also won at the Northwest Invitational with 160 team points, easily beating out runner up Heritage-Catoosa (137.5). Dalton finished third and Southeast Whitfield finished fourth. Raul Franco’s victory in the shot put and Jonathan Willman’s win in the triple jump helped Northwest Whitfield earn the victory. … Northgate slipped past Luella in the Third Annual Eagles Early Bird Invitational hosted by North Clayton at Southern Crescent Stadium in Jonesboro. Hailey Gollnick and Josh Oller got the Northgate teams off to strong starts, taking the girls and boys 3200 meter runs, respectively. The Northgate girls finished with eight event wins for 157.5 points, 17.5 more than Luella, while the Northgate boys (five event wins) edged Luella by 11, 165-154. … Grayson hosted the Grayson Rams Invitational in Loganville and the host boys beat out Lanier and Archer while the Lady Rams finished second to Archer. Odion Agbi earned National Elite status with his 45-06 jump in the boys triple jump event. … The host Loganville girls track and field team won the Running with the Devils Invitational. Taniqua Warren won the girls shot put event and Loganville captured three other individual races to beat out Rockdale County. The Rockdale County boys earned the victory at the invitational thanks in part to Chaz Mapp’s victory in the boys 800 meter run. … Sprayberry slipped past Wheeler 98-92.5 to take the Wolverine Track Invitational at Woodstock High School. The host Woodstock girls finished first, beating Etowah 138-102. Five national elite honors were earned as Lassiter’s Morgan Ainslie ran a 5:10.8 in the 1600 meter girls run; Creekview’s Anna Dunn cleared 10-6 in the girls pole vault; Etowah’s Leena Morris toss the shot put 37-9.5; Woodstock’s J.C. Cornett ran a 4:21.7 in the boys 1600 meter run; and Hillgrove’s Jaylan Reid threw the boys shot put 51-8.5.
