Wrenn helps Walton to victory

Stephen Wrenn and Henry Rowling helped usher Walton out to an early lead in the decisive Game 3 of the Raiders’ quarterfinal series. Caleb Bohan slammed the door on the Tift County Blue Devils’ to bring Walton to a 5-2 victory. Wrenn started the game on the mound for Walton before turning the game over to Bohan for the final three innings. Aaron Rzucidlo drove in a pair of runs for Walton in the victory. … Roswell took advantage of four Lowndes errors to slip past the Vikings 5-2. All of the Hornets’ runs were unearned, but that will not matter to Roswell, which received a strong effort from Wake Forest signee Connor Johnstone. Johnstone allowed just two runs on four hits for Roswell. … Evans scored a run in each of the first two innings in Game 3 of its Class AAAAA quarterfinal series against Pope, but the Greyhounds were just getting started. Pope would score 12-straight runs including a Brett Lyle walk-off home run to force the run rule in a 12-2 victory in five innings. Pope scored three in the third, five in the fourth and four in the fifth to advance. … In Class AAA action St. Pius X clocked Pike County 8-1 and will now face Cartersville for the right to play for a title. … The North Hall Trojans continue to make history with each win in the Class AAA postseason. North Hall reached the GHSA semifinals for the first time in the history of its program with an 11-6 victory over Pierce County in Game 3 of their quarterfinal series yesterday. Adam Kelly launched a three-run home run to help North Hall pull away late in the game and finished with four RBIs in the victory. Preston Graham had a three-run double early to help North Hall out to a 6-0 lead. Pierce County would rally to close the margin to 7-6 when Kelly blasted his three-run homer to open up more breathing room. North Hall will welcome in Blessed Trinity Monday. … Wesleyan had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, down 4-3, in Game 3 of its series with Benedictine and the team’s best hitter Griffin Bone at the plate. Bone drove a sharp line drive to center, but Benedictine sophomore, Brad Stewart, dove and came up with perhaps the best catch of the postseason to preserve the victory and send the Cadets to the semifinals. Benedictine trailed early 2-0 but scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a lead it would never relinquish. Benedictine will host Lovett Monday in the Class AA semifinals. Lovett thrashed Westside-Augusta 12-1 Lovett scored two in the first inning to get off to a strong start on the road. The Lions would pound out 15 hits and score seven runs in the fifth inning to force the run rule.
