Sky Zone Jump In To Give: Jordan Colbert

Jon Barash

Jordan Colbert has been an integral part to Griffin’s success this season as his Bears are going to the semifinals for the first time since 2009. He’s been flying around on defense with 68 tackles, five sacks and four interceptions on the year. On offense, he has three touchdowns and is averaging 19 yards per reception. His play on the field has lifted his team, but what he’s been doing off it has lifted his community.

Colbert is very active with his church and has built a solid relationship with his teammates through it. Before every game, Colbert and his teammates attend First Assembly of God in Griffin for prayer and guidance in their upcoming game. He says it has helped his team come together and that translates on the football field.

Colbert is a member of the Tabernacle of Praise Church where he volunteers every week. In addition to videotaping and recording the weekly church sermons, he is involved in a program called Youth Explosion. It takes place at the beginning of the school year and is an event that kicks off the school year on a positive note with a concert and prayer for any youth in the surrounding area. He also helps with his church’s Thanksgiving Food Drive where he helps packs boxes of food and delivers them to nursing homes in Griffin.

Colbert understands how important it is to have a good role model in your life, and he is trying to be one for younger kids in his community through Character Day.

“I participated in the Character Day program for Griffin-Spalding County Schools as a guest speaker/mentor,” Colbert explained. “The participants encourage the elementary school students to do well in school and to set good examples in the community.”

Colbert is a great role model for the community as well as his Griffin teammates.
