Pre-playoff football rankings

In Class AAAAAA, the top 9 remains the same for a third straight week and a new team snuck into the poll. Etowah dropped out after a 24-7 loss to Roswell and Valdosta returned to the rankings after an impressive 31-25 win over Lee County. Valdosta’s victory eliminated Lee County from the playoffs and earned the Wildcats a No. 3 seed out of the talented Region 1.

Stockbridge stifled defensive power Northgate 20-2 in a battle of unbeaten and took over the No. 1 spot in Class AAAAA. Northside-Warner Robins was sent to No. 6 after a 34-13 loss to rival Houston County. Stephenson leapt to No. 2 after holding off Mays 10-9 and Mays fell to No. 5 behind 10-0 Lanier. Northgate was replaced by Allatoona for No. 10.

In Class AAAA, Woodward Academy debuts at No. 1 after finishing its first unbeaten regular season since 1997. The War Eagles would face No. 2 Buford in the semifinals if the anticipated matchup were to take place.

Callaway defeated Central-Carroll 21-24 and moved to No. 6 in Class AAA and Oconee County sits at No. 8 after capturing the Region 8 title in a 12-7 battle with Elbert County.

In Class AA, undefeated Benedictine looks to defend its state title as the pre-playoff No. 1 team.

In Class A-Private, Prince Avenue Christian debuts at No. 1 and former No. 1 Mt. Paran’s 23-game win streak was snapped by Pinecrest Academy 28-21.
