Softball playoff games continued Wednesday across the state as teams try to advance to the second round which begins Tuesday. In the Class AAA bracket, top-ranked Ringgold swept Morgan County 12-0, 7-0 to advance.
In the first game Shelby Cole hit her second 3-run homerun of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Ringgold a walk-off 12-0 victory. Cole was 3-for-3 from the plate with seven RBIs. Ringgold scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. It added four runs in the bottom of the second inning and three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning from Cole’s homerun. Junior Kaylee Phillips pitched three innings and allowed one hit after facing 11 batters. Junior Taylor Thomas pitched one inning, faced five batters and allowed two hits.
In the AAAAA bracket, Ola won a deciding third game over No. 10 Ware County 4-2 after splitting games with the Gators on Tuesday 4-5, 3-1. In the third game, Jacie Jenkins put the Mustangs ahead for good with a 3-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning after trailing 2-1. Ola will travel Region 8 No. 1-seeded Buford for the second round.
In Class A-Private, No. 10 Hebron Christian, the No. 9-seed, advanced to the second round with a sweep of #24-seeded Whitefield Academy 12-0, 13-0. In the first game, Jessie Parish was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Nicole Azar was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sydney Harris was 3-for-3 and Layton Morris was 2-for-2 with an RBI. In the second game, Harris was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Parish was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Olivia Brewer was 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Lions will face Mount Vernon, the #8 seed, in the second round.
