Week 11 Basketball Rankings

Class AAAAAAA’s top 2 boys teams (Grayson and Norcross) represented Georgia well on Monday as they battled out-of-state opponents in the Kevin Durant MLK Showcase. Top-ranked Grayson improved to 20-1 overall and extended its winning streak to 12 games with a 77-61 win over Crestwood Prep, Ontario. Norcross faced off with Rock Creek Christian Academy (MD) and scored a 76-71 win to improve to 20-2 overall. This Friday, No. 3 Shiloh (20-1) will host Grayson in a highly-anticipated showdown. The teams met previously on Jan. 3 and Grayson’s 72-60 win served the Generals their first and only loss of the season. The top 9 teams did not shift in Class AAAAAAA, however, Cherokee (19-4) replaced Pebblebrook at No. 10.

Class AAAAAA No. 1 Tucker held on for a 69-68 overtime win against Morrow on Saturday and was won of the few teams that did not shift in this week’s poll. Sequoyah climbed from No. 4 to No. 2, South Cobb dropped from No. 2 to No. 3, Hughes leapt from No. 6 to No. 4 after beating Tri-Cities 85-77 on Saturday—Tri-Cities went from No. 3 to No. 5 following the defeat. Lanier, Evans, Valdosta, Pope and Chattahoochee round out the top 10.

In Class AAAAA, No. 2 Eagle’s Landing fell 86-78 in overtime to No. 3 Dutchtown on Saturday, but the loss was not enough to shift the standings. The reason this did not result in a shift is that Eagle’s Landing emerged victorious in overtime (87-80) when the two teams met on Jan. 6, which offset the outcome. Elsewhere in the top 10, Buford jumped from No. 10 to No. 7 after a strong week and Carrollton replaced Walnut Grove.

There is a new No. 1 team in Class AAAA. The Americus-Sumter Panthers took over the top spot after improving to 20-0 concurrently with former No. 1 Woodward Academy dropping a 67-64 loss to Druid Hills last Friday. Sandy Creek improved one slot to No. 2 and Woodward Academy comes in at No. 3.

In Class AAA, Franklin County dropped out of the top 10 and was replaced by Monroe, which makes its debut at No. 9. Also, Lovett’s swapped places with Westminster at No. 7 after defeating the Wildcats 66-56 on Friday. Douglass and Thomasville replaced Banks County and Washington County in the Class AA top 10.

In Class A-Private, Galloway, Whitefield Academy and WD Mohammed were replaced in the top 10 by Pinecrest Academy, Providence Christian and Mt. Paran, Walker fell from No. 2 to No. 5. Dre Charter replaced Lanier County at No. 4 in the Class A-Public poll and the Bulldogs slid to No. 9 following their losses to Clinch County (64-63) on Saturday and No. 2 Wilcox County (67-56) on Tuesday.
