Week 8 Girls Basketball Rankings

Last Tuesday No. 1 Archer proved why it is the best team in Class AAAAAA by defeating Region 8 rival No. 9 Parkview 43-37. No. 2 Harrison is hot on the Tigers’ tail however, beating 5A Sequoyah 44-37 and dropping the Lady Chiefs from No. 1 to No. 3. The Lady Hoyas host No. 7 McEachern on Tuesday with a chance to make a statement against the defending state champs. Marietta falls from the top ten after losing 58-51 to Hillgrove. The Lady Blue Devils are replaced by No. 10 Douglas County.

No. 1 Brunswick regains control of AAAAA after winning nine straight and dispatching of 3A No. 7 Johnson-Savannah 60-54. No. 2 Glynn Academy handed No. 4 South Effingham its first loss of the year, 49-38. Flowery Branch lost 60-48 to a tough Gainesville team, meaning the Lady Falcons slip from No. 2 to No. 5. The No. 10 spot belongs to Carver-Columbus. Carver blasted rival Columbus 61-46, handing the Lady Blue Devils their first loss of the season and knocking them from the poll. The Lady Razorbacks of Cross Creek (13-3) used Alana Davis’ 23-point 14-rebound double-double and Nya Daniels’ 18 points to mark No. 8 Grovetown’s previously unblemished record.

In AAAA, No. 3 Jonesboro moves up two spots after a pair of impressive wins, defeating No. 6 Griffin 46-34 and No. 10 Henry County 56-47. No. 9 Heritage-Catoosa debuts in the top ten following wins over Northwest Whitfield 47-42 and 3A No. 8 Ringgold 54-39. The Lady Generals’ win over the Lady Bruins knocked Northwest Whitfield out of the top ten.

Class AAA’s No. 1 Morgan County continues to make the case that it is one of the best teams in the entire state. The Lady Bulldogs crushed No. 5 Laney in their rematch and left little doubt that they are hands down the team to beat in AAA after a 72-53 thumping. For good measure, Morgan County also pummeled 15-3 Hart County, 80-59. Elsewhere, No. 4 Kendrick stopped No. 9 Peach County 67-62. South Atlanta and Dodge County slip from the rankings and are replaced by No. 6 Beach and No. 10 East Hall.

Two of the most dominant programs in the state clashed in a Region 6-AA showdown. When the dust settled, it was No. 1 Wesleyan victorious against No. 2 Holy Innocents’ 58-52. Both teams remain anchored at their top spots. No. 5 Pelham falls two spots after losing to Lowndes 54-46. No. 3 Model continues to win and runs its record up to 18-0. Lovett exits the poll after back-to-back losses to Wesleyan 74-32 and GAC 52-46.

In A-Private, No. 4 Stratford Academy handed No. 5 Tattnall Square Academy its first loss of the season, 34-21. No. 9 ELCA beat No. 10 Paideia 46-43, causing the Lady Pythons to fall four spots. A new team appears in the Class A-Public poll with Telfair County coming in at No. 10.
